5big guys need a big machineMar 10, 2008
I did a lot of research before I bought this machine and it paid off. THere were no real sales out there ,but rather phony discounts. This the only one truly marked down. I am over 300 pounds so I knew I needed a sturdy machine with a big motor. I used to work at a health club and for me only the star trac is any better than this one.Free shipping? this thing weighs over 250 pounds. THe delivery service was exceptional. this one of the best buying experiences ever.

5Spirit TreadmillFeb 12, 2008
The treadmill is awesome. The problem was with Amazon. It was suppose to be delivered "white glove" meaning brought into my home and set up. Amazom assured me before delivery (and actually placing the order) that I would receive this service. It was dropped off in my garage and I was told it was threshold only. I finally drew tired of parking outside (cold winter) I paid a delivery service to assist me. I am out nearly $200.00 I wasn't planning on. I would like the extra money paid back to me. This is truly bad business on Amazon's part.

5Great Treadmill - Compare to Sole F83Jan 25, 2008
I was about to buy a Sole F83 treadmill for around $1700 delivered when I discovered that this treadmill was almost identical and just marketed under a different brand. Far as I can tell, that is accurate... the only difference I see besides a slightly different paint job is this model doesn't seem to have a place to hook up the ipod which is a totally useless feature far as I am concerned anyway.

The treadmill is solid and feels great. It seems of comparable quality to the Precors I use at the gym.

At $1299 from Amazon with free shipping it is a steal and I wouldn't hesitate to buy it if you are in the market for a treadmill of (near) gym quality. At $1900 from the other vendors, it is still a good treadmill but there are other options you may want to consider instead. The person who delivered mine helped me bring it inside also which costs $100 more from a lot of the internet dealers, including Sole. The package is very bulky and ridiculously heavy (260 or 270 lbs). It was pretty easy to put together and took about an hour.

5I'm 110% pleased. Love it.Mar 14, 2007
I was very concerned about purchasing something this costly over the internet. Everything went very smooth. The product arrived in a couple of weeks in a BIG truck. It's extremely heavy! The delivery man helped me get the box inside the house. From there it was easy to assemple, took abut 20 minutes. The fold up feature works great and it is very easy to roll around, at least on my tile floors. It took a me a little time to get it leveled just right. There was a little wobble at first. Buying from Amazon saved me a fortune. Free shipping, no tax, and I used my Amazon.com credit card to get 3% in Amazon credits. Can't beat that deal!

The treadmill feels equivalent in quality to the high dollar Life Fitness treadmills at my gym. The only thing this one doesn't do is decline. I can only run uphill. It is very quite and the ride is great. I've been able to run everyday without getting any soreness. I never could do that running outside. The running surface feels huge and I have no problems running off the belt. Occasionally when I'm running uphill I will land my foot on the front plastic cover if I get to close to the console.

The programs aren't all that useful for me. They seem too easy and there's really not that much difference between them. I would like to see a speed intervals that takes you from fast to slow according to heart rate. I really like the heart rate control. You can set it for a certain heart rate and the treadmill will adjust incline and speed to keep you there. I took the time to program my own program under User 1 and that works really well. You can modify it throughout your workout and it will save your modifications if you want it to. That helps you monitor your progress. If you are constantly slowing down the program then you aren't doing as well as the last workout.

One complaint I have is that the display has redundant information. There's the distance, time, calories, and heart rate at the top. Then at the bottom there's the same information or you can toggle it to see pace and kcal per hour. Spirit should have added different information here and avoided the redundancy. I would like to see it keep track of my elevation climbed, average speed, lap times, etc.

The heart rate strap works great, especially with the heart rate control programs. My wife uses the handles, which seem to work as good as any. The speed and incline controls on the handles are very nice.

The pause button is easy to hit by accident when changing speed while running. It's annoying when that happens because the machine comes to a complete stop. It gives a 3 second countdown before starting back up and it starts up VERY slowly.

I got this treadmill mainly because it would go 12mph and has a 15% incline. Unfortanetly, the quick buttons will only take it up to a 12% grade and there is no 0% grade quick button. To go to 15% or to 0% you have to manually do it with the Up or Down buttons on the console or the hand rails The fans work pretty good too. I could use a little more air, but they certainly beat having nothing at all. My only complaint with the fans is that you have to turn them off with a switch. They run independent of the treadmill and only have one speed.

I've already ran over 200 miles on this and have had no problems with quality. I'm extremely please with my purchase.
