In 1983, Casio launched the shock-resistant G-SHOCK watch. This product shattered the notion that a watch is a fragile piece of jewelry that needs to be handled with care, and was the result of Casio engineers taking on the challenge of creating the world's toughest watch. Using a triple-protection design for the parts, module, and case, the G-SHOCK offered a radical new type of watch that was unaffected by strong impacts or shaking. Its practicality was immediately recognized, and its unique look, which embodied its functionality, became wildly popular, resulting in explosive sales in the early 1990s. The G-SHOCK soon adopted various new sensors, solar-powered radio-controlled technology (described below), and new materials for even better durability. By always employing the latest technology, and continuing to transcend conventional thinking about the watch, the G-SHOCK brand has become Casio's flagship timepiece product.
G-Shock and Baby-G Brand G-Shock represents the inner force that's within all of us and it's with this inner force that G-Shock was developed more than two decades ago.
Two engineers, with a vision to create the ultimate watch, assembled a rogue team of engineers and named their mission, "Project Tough." Through perseverance and unusual testing methods, such as throwing prototypes out the second floor bathroom window to the asphalt below, they developed the first G-Shock in 1983. This watch was able to withstand their then benchmark of "Triple Ten" criteria, namely 10 years of usage, 10 atmospheres (water resistance) and a 10m fall (shock resistance).
Today more than two decades later, G-Shock watches have exceeded the designers' original benchmark and pushed the limits of what a watch can endure. With 200M water resistance & shock resistance at the heart G-Shock's strength and numerous technological advances such as Tough Solar Power and Atomic Timekeeping, you'll have no doubt why G-Shock is called the Toughest Watch in the World.
All G-Shock and Baby-G watches are shock resistant. Their unique shock absorbing structure supports the module (inner brains) as if it were floating in air. All G-Shock watches are 200M (20 bar or 660 ft) water resistant. Baby-G watches are 100 to 200M water resistant depending on the model. All G-Shocks use mineral glass for added toughness. Baby-Gs are either mineral glass or plastic glass depending on the model.

CASIO gets jiggy.....May 01, 2008 Well, I've been a fan,,,kinda like the toyota of watches,,,but this one looks and feels like something the navy SEALS wear and died after only 2 months of really soft wear...i haven't even scratched the face on it yet...i'm gonna try and complain, but the crybaby thing is a drag to perform....so it maybe time to look for the next cheap bulletproof watchmaker with some alarms and functions...
Not so toughApr 28, 2008 Mine was dead in 18 months after washing my hands with it. Not so water resistant as advertised.
great watchApr 13, 2008 I bought this watch for $70 at Sports Authority over a year ago. I've put this watch through everything you can think of, its great.
Great all around basic watchApr 07, 2008 This is a basic watch, as far as functions. The watch is great, however. You can really beat the crap out of this watch and it just keeps on going. I use it for all kinds of things, running, hiking, diving, yard work, construction... everything. I took it off and handed it to a buddy and told him to chuck it at the floor, as hard as he could... he did... one of the bands came off in the process (put it back on easily), but the watch continues to work like a charm. The light it nice and bright too. Its G-shock claims are real. Bottom line: Great watch (nothing fancy), great price. I would love it if Casio made this model with a digital compass. Most of the digital compass watches also include a bunch of other worthless crap, like a thermometer etc.
CASIO WATCHESMar 25, 2008 CASIO HAS ALWAYS DELIVERED A CHEAP, DEPENDABLE WATCH. MY ONLY COMPLAINT WAS A FLIMSY BAND ATTACHMENT-THE PIN WOULD SOMETIMES GET PULLED OUT AND EVENTUALLY STRIP THE PIN HOLE. MY G-SHOCK DW9052-1V SOLVES THAT PROBLEM WITH A SCREWED-IN SYSTEM. OTHERWISE, THE WATCH RUNS TERRIFIC AND PERFORMS ALL THE PROMISED FUNCTIONS WELL.
